What is an Insights Bank?
An Insights Bank is a central hub for collating and sharing patient and public insight gathered across South Yorkshire’s system partners such as health and care, local government, and voluntary organisations. This easily accessible space enables a wide variety of people to access shared data to inform decision making. It is hosted by the NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care System, but it is for any organisation to use and contribute towards.
It holds (non-sensitive) reports or information that partners have shared about themes or topics that can affect people’s health. This includes qualitative insights from engagement exercises, such as research studies, surveys, focus groups, consultations, patient feedback, and other insight gathering exercises.
The purpose of an Insights Bank is to provide a single location for storing and organising data and insights, making it easier for organisations to access and use the information to inform decision-making. It helps to ensure that knowledge and insights are not lost or forgotten over time.
By using an Insight Bank, we can:
- Share what we have heard from our public and communities thereby amplifying their voices.
- Find out what populations or communities think and feel about their health thereby helping us to listen to what they have to say.
If you are looking for specific insight, survey results, and/or reports, filter the insights categories to find out what you need to know.

Why do we need one in South Yorkshire?
A number of our ambitions in South Yorkshire are linked by similar themes. In order to meaningfully tackle health inequalities we need to develop an intelligence-led approach that can help decision makers understand the impact of inequalities on people’s lives and how they access local services. By having an Insights Bank the insights that are collected and recorded through working with our communities will be better utilised, and it will help us to put citizens at the heart of all we do.
We anticipate this South Yorkshire Insights Bank will:
- Support collaboration between organisations around gathering insight, by enabling links to be made between individuals/organisations who are working on the same area or are wanting the answers to the same questions.
- Increase the accessibility and value of insight from across the system, through proactively gathering and organising insight.
- Maximise our limited resources as well as minimise the burden on communities and enable a ‘ask once’ approach.
- Enable more targeted engagement where gaps or deeper understanding is warranted and ensure we are reaching those we don’t normally hear from.
- Help us answer the question “What do we know already?” Including mitigating risk around any potential challenge to engagement, such as in making the decision whether to consult on service change or reconfiguration.
