Frequently Asked Questions about the Insights Bank

The purpose of this Insights Bank is to provide a single location for storing and sharing insights we gathered from our patients, public or communities, making it easier for us all to access and use the information to inform decision-making. An Insights Bank can also help ensure that knowledge and insights are not lost or forgotten over time, and can be used to identify trends and patterns over time.

It is open and accessible to all but we have built it with health care professionals and the voluntary and community sector in mind as we want to better enable the design, and delivery of services that meet the needs of our populations and communities.

If you are a member of the public and want to share a story about your experiences of accessing health and care services please visit the NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board website's "Tell us your stories" page here. Stories may then be uploaded to the Insights Bank to help drive learning and improvement.

It is really important for us to engage and listen to the residents of South Yorkshire and we need to know what our population thinks and feels about the services we provide and the factors that influence their health.  This Insight bank is our way to gather, store and share the information we have gathered from across all our partners in the ICS.

The aim is for the Insights Bank to be publicly available therefore we asking that people only share materials that could be publicly viewed and therefore no identifiable data should be shared unless you have the permission to share publicly. We are anticipating that people therefore share completed reports or publications rather than raw data collected directly from individuals.

The more reports we have in the Insights Bank, greater the opportunity to make sure we can listen to what people have told us and use that to improve services and outcomes.  Once the Insight Bank is up and running we expect it will:

  • Make it easy for you to find information without the need to waste time and effort looking for information, all our key insights in one place.
  • Help you deliver on your core mission and amplify the voices of those you have supported and heard from.
  • Make it easy for you to get information to help build business cases or funding applications to help you deliver the things that are important to you and your community.

There’s no restriction or limit on the age of the report. As part of the submission we ask for the publication date so that the viewer can then make their own decision if they think the information is still relevant.

Please go to the Upload an Insight page and follow the instructions.

It currently takes 5 minutes on average to complete the submission form per report (one form needs to be completed for each separate report you have).

The Insight Bank is currently managed by the South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) Involvement team on behalf of the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System (ICS). However, it was co-designed by a range of partners across South Yorkshire including healthcare providers, Healthwatch, local councils and voluntary sector (VCSE) groups.

An insight can be any form of information that tells us something. While we ask you don’t share sensitive or identifiable data with us, anything else can be shared including write ups from focus groups or results from surveys as well as any already published reports or documents. We can even take videos or artwork. Any information that was gathered about what people think or feel about their health in any format is acceptable.

Making sure we make the best use of available data and insights that we’ve already gathered from our communities is part of the Start with People Strategy for NHS South Yorkshire ICB.. Similarly, making sure we use such insights and combine it with other quantitative data that we know about our population is part of our Data and Insights strategy. The Insight Bank is also a key deliverable within our ICS strategy and the South Yorkshire NHS Joint Forward Plan.
